‘Utopia Unveiled’ exhibition
The history of communal living is the subject of Utopia Unveiled: Intentional Communities in the Kootenays, the latest history exhibition at the Nelson Museum, Archives & Gallery. Utopia Unveiled features artifacts, photographs, and stories from the Shawn Lamb Archives and the Doukhobor Discovery Centre, as well as many contributions from community members.
The Witness Blanket
Seemingly disconnected remnants of clothing, crumbling buildings, and fragmented cultures are woven together into a blanket, designed to shine light on the Indian Residential School system that connects them, and stand as a monument to the resiliency and strength of those who survived them.

Crystal Journey
David Hickey’s Crystal Journey is set to wrap Taghum Hall in sonic soundscapes on Thursday, September 19 at 7pm, with paiste planet and symphonic gongs, Persian santoors, harmonica, and quartz crystal bowls. Crystal Journey has been touring Canada and the US for 22 years and has performed over 1700 shows. For the full effect, bring a yoga mat to stretch out on!
Meat & Prize Draws
Every Friday afternoon, the Nelson Royal Canadian Legion (402 Victoria Street – Stanley Street Entrance) holds meat & prize draws from 3 to 5 pm. There is also often a 50/50 draw. All proceeds to local charities. Please come out and join us in a great community cause.

Cooking with Daikon
True Local Daikon radishes are in season, and there’s no better time to learn how to incorporate them into your next meal. Chef Zen returns this fall, teaching participants how to use this versatile root vegetable 3 different ways – Daikon Salad, Daikon + Beef Stir Fry, and Daikon + Carrot Soup.
‘Witness Blanket’ closing ceremony
The Witness Blanket closes this Friday, September 20 at the Nelson Museum. This FREE event is open to the public, and will feature a screening of the 8-minute version of the documentary, as well as jingle dancers and speakers. The event starts at 6 pm and seating will be limited.
An Ode to Song: Women Songwriters of the Kootenays Showcase
Inspired by their Women Songwriters of the Kootenays Showcase at Tiny Lights Festival this summer, Alissa Arnason, Sapphire Guthrie, Tenise Marie, and Sarah Orton bring their original songs with four-part harmonies to Nelson.
Finley’s Afterwork Dance Party with White Lightning Blues, Rock and Boogie Band
White Lightning Blues, Rock and Boogie Band returns to Finley’s Bar and Grill, voted best Pub in Nelson 2023, promising another night of great dance music- classics from Little Walter and Chuck Berry to Little Feat and The Beatles, plus an ever increasing collection of Kootenay themed originals. Guided Cold War Bunker tours
During the height of the Cold War, in the 1950s and 1960s, nearly 50 bunkers were constructed across Canada. In 2017, the Nelson Museum began work on restoring the space and opening it to the public. You can join a tour of one of the Museumʼs best-loved spaces!
