Getting Here

Whether you’re travelling to Nelson and Kootenay Lake by car, shuttle, taxi or plane. Our ‘Getting Here’ page is the information centre you need to make your journey as hassle free as possible. We provide useful information about border crossing points, where to find electric plugins for rechargeable vehicles, and details about distance and driving times. 

Roads & Ferries

Depending on where you are travelling in our region, you may come across a ferry or two. Lucky for you, all the ferries in our region are free. Kootenay Lake is even famous for having the longest free ferry in the world. Visit our Roads & Ferries page to find out more information about how to prepare for various road conditions. You will also be able to find the daily schedule for the Kootenay Lake Ferry. The summer Ferry service with M.V. Balfour operates from late June through Labour Day weekend. Check the time zone for Nelson to ensure you are on time.
