Fat Tire Biking
Fat Tire Biking on Winter Trails
Fat tire biking—so named because of the bikes' gargantuan, oversized low-pressure tires—opens up our extensive network of trails for adventures in snowy and muddy conditions.
A variety of biking and hiking trails are ideal for fat tire biking, and virtually all of our forest service roads link to other spur roads for more options. Whitewater Ski Resort also allows fat biking on their multiuse trail. There are a few trails that locals snowshoe, on a semi-regular basis, that are suitable for fat biking. For information on where to ride and buy a fat bike, visit one of our local bike shops: The Sacred Ride or Gerick Cycle & Ski.
Mountain trail maps can also be purchased through the Nelson Cycling Club, at Gerick Cycle & Ski, The Sacred Ride, Valhalla Pure and the Nelson Visitor Centre.
Safety First
Before venturing into the mountains be sure to check Avalanche Canada and DriveBC for snow conditions. There are lots of backcountry and avalanche awareness courses available and local guides to help make your trip as enjoyable and safe as possible.
