Shop

Shopping in Baker Street Nelson, Balfour, Kaslo and Crawford Bay

With a diverse collection of artisan and boutique stores, our region is a shopping lover's dream. No big box stores here. We encourage shopping for locally made products that are made with creativity, love, often local materials, and of course made by locals inspired by where they live. #FindingAwesome

Wondering Where to Shop?

Retail

Nelson and Kaslo enjoy revitalized main streets, such as baker street nelson, with boutique shops, many selling locally made items. Heritage buildings and careful restorations help maintain the local, historical feel, and are a destination in themselves. Come for a week or weekend, it's a shoppers dream - cafes, dining, beer, wine, galleries, cultural events, sweets, and shopping!  Autumn is a beautiful time to visit and get great deals on summer and winter apparel and gear.

And if you would like the convenience of a mall or a larger store such as Walmart, the Chahko Mika Mall in Nelson will meet all those needs—home to perhaps the only waterfront Walmart in the world.

Markets

Regular spring to fall markets are in Crawford Bay, Kaslo, Nelson and Meadow Creek. Vendors fill the streets and parks and sell local crafts and farm fresh foods. Food trucks are at the Nelson Wednesday market which adds to the variety of merchants and lunch-time flavours.

Artisans

Renowned artisans in Crawford Bay and along Highway 3A will engage you with crafts, art, weaving, jewellery, and the famous Harry Potter brooms. Kaslo and North Kootenay Lake have their own unique artisan flare with small shops certain to hold a treasure or two to take home. Balfour to Nelson, hosts a community of artisans. Stop in, meet the artisans, and take home some local Kootenay goodness.
