Kootenay Bay

The Ladybug Café, located at the Kootenay Bay ferry terminal, and just a short drive from Crawford Bay, is welcoming guests back with a playful collection of hand-painted ladybugs. You’ll find these colourful red and black creations throughout the region (and beyond!), spreading good cheer through this fun scavenger hunt. Keep your eyes open for them, or take one from the café and give it a new home.

Also in Kootenay Bay, you can get takeout salads, sandwiches, or wood-fired pizzas from Boccalino Restaurant, Motel & Cabins to enjoy a picnic on the beach or take it with you on the ferry.

Crawford Bay

The reputation for good quality food on Kootenay Lake is on proud display at multiple eateries in Crawford Bay. Don’t miss the mouth watering cinnamon buns at Red’s Bakery (splurge on the icing!) and the freshly prepared gourmet sandwiches.

The main drag of town also features the cozy and artsy Black Salt Café, with an emphasis on local and organic ingredients and a wide range of vegetarian options. Grab a seat on the patio and enjoy the views and special community feel of this gem of a bistro.

Other great options include the Woods' Pumphouse Grill at Kokanee Springs Resort, with a large covered terrace overlooking the golf course and a wide-ranging menu plus daily specials. Newkey’s Place offers up tasty pub food along the main street, while just south of town you’ll find the Rockwood Café with an emphasis on Oriental cuisine.

Along Highway 3A you'll find other restaurants, food trucks and Cold Stone Creamery. There are plenty of beaches and parks to sit and enjoy your foods - the vistas are stunning.

Artisans

And of course, don't miss the artisans! Step inside the North Woven Broom barn for a truly unique experience, and gaze upon the kaleidoscope of colours at Barefoot Handweaving in their custom built store across the street. Don’t miss the beautiful selection of wrought iron creations at Kootenay Forge located inside of Forge & Furnace Gallery and handmade bowls at Dog Patch Pottery.

Outdoor Activities

Perhaps the best way to discover the famed artisans of Crawford Bay is on a bicycle. Bring your own wheels and take your time stopping in at each store to check out the handcrafted items and meet the artists. Continue on to Crawford Creek road and to Wadds road to create a quiet and beautiful 8km loop.

Cyclists will also love the stunning road ride along the East Shore towards Creston. With twists and turns and gentle climbs, and all kinds of waterfront views, it’s a top tier cycling destination. Mountain bikers can explore dozens of kilometres of trails near Pilot Bay Provincial Park, while hikers will find a range of trails from short walks to the lighthouse to more challenging alpine hikes nearby.

The legendary Kokanee Springs Golf Resort is a must-visit for any avid golfer. Mountain biking trails range from family friendly to downhill adrenaline.
